At the end of 2023, Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil company, Aramco, disembarked in South America with the purchase of 300 service stations in Chile that belonged to Esmax Distribución and operated under the Petrobras banner. The operation was closed last March, after the approval of the National Economic Prosecutor's Office, and the first service station debuted its new name last May in the La Reina district.
Aramco is a giant in every sense. Not only does it have the largest oil reserves on the planet, it also has one of the lowest extraction costs in the world (US$3.19 per barrel in 2022), one of the highest stock market valuations (with a market capitalization of US$1.8 trillion as of July 2024, the sixth most valuable firm in the world) and is also one of the most profitable on the planet.
