Amazon is making a strong bet on artificial intelligence (AI) in the home. The e-commerce company has given more AI-based functions to the Alexa assistant, which can now be taught by the user to identify specific sounds in each home, such as the different alarms of household appliances, the doorbell or the noise of the garage door opening, among others.

In parallel, Amazon has launched Astro, a home robot designed to help users with a range of complex tasks, such as monitoring the home or keeping in touch with family. Astro combines AI, sensors, computer vision, extensive ability to understand verbal commands and the ability to learn under a machine learning system (you can see more about Astro at https://www.youtube.com/embed/YiHE5y1L2Bk).

These and other products announced in September by Amazon are part of its vision of a home in which different devices and applications are woven together, united by AI.
