Amazon is making a strong push into artificial intelligence (AI) for the home. The e-commerce company has added more AI-based features to its Alexa assistant, which users can now train to recognize specific sounds in their homes, such as the various alerts from household appliances, the doorbell, or the sound of the garage door opening, among others.

At the same time, Amazon has launched Astro, a home robot designed to help users with a range of complex tasks, such as monitoring the home or staying in touch with family. These and other products announced by Amazon in September are part of its vision of a home where different devices and apps are seamlessly integrated, all connected by AI.
