February is upon us, the quintessential vacation month in the Southern Cone of America. Tourism is recovering vigorously after the pandemic, but in the major tourist destinations we are still below 2019 levels.
Turkey. This fascinating country, bridge between Europe and Asia, shows a year-on-year drop between December 2019 and December 2022 of just 3%. Even, according to monthly data, in November 2022 it recorded 9% more visits than in the same month of 2019 and in December 16% more. The hardest hit is Thailand, which shows in 2022 a 75% year-on-year drop compared to 2019.
