Trademark registration in Chile recorded a sharp increase in the first five months of the year. According to data from the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), between January and May of this year, 27,749 applications have been filed, 60% more than in the same period of 2020. Eighty percent of these correspond to national applications. For different experts, the phenomenon reflects a growing interest in entrepreneurship due to the pandemic, both because of the loss of traditional sources of income of many people, which has led them to invent their own business, and because teleworking has allowed many potential entrepreneurs to discover new business opportunities from their homes. During 2020 in Chile, 158,586 of companies and new businesses were created, 14.4% more than in 2019 and the highest figure on record. More than 80% of these were created under the simplified regime.
