Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO, is preparing to travel to space next month. But that’s not all. Bezos will also take an important step on July 5: he will step down as Amazon’s CEO, a position that will be taken over by Andy Jassy, the current CEO of Amazon Web Services, the company’s successful cloud services business. Bezos is leaving Jassy at the helm of a company very different from the one founded in 1994. In addition to its organic growth, Amazon has made major acquisitions, which have enabled it to become the second-largest company by sales in the U.S. and the ninth-largest in the world.
