Last week, we mentioned that the group of the 50 largest companies in the world by market capitalization are now bigger, more profitable, and pay less taxes. But Bloomberg's analysis of global giants also shows us other important changes in this group. On the one hand, although it is a group led by US companies—which in fact rose from 25 in 2010 to 32 in 2020—the presence of Chinese companies has continued to grow. With eight companies in the club of the 50 largest—up from just one in 2000 and seven in 2010—Chinese firms are the second largest group. The second finding is also not surprising: in 2020, of the 50 largest, 21 are technology companies, compared to only eight in 2010.
