News about advances in electric cars is an everyday occurrence. Talking about electric planes, however, is almost science fiction. Until now. A Swedish startup, Heart Aerospace (https://heartaerospace.com/) is preparing to put the first fully electric commercial passenger aircraft into service as early as 2026. United Airlines has given the final go-ahead to this project by ordering 100 units of the first model to roll off the Swedish company's production line. It is a 19-passenger aircraft designed for short routes. In addition to ordering these aircraft, the airline's investment fund, United Airlines Ventures, launched last June, will invest in Heart Aerospace, along with Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a fund owned by Bill Gates, and Arizona regional airline Mesa Airlines, which has also ordered aircraft from Heart Aerospace.
