Electric airplanes arrive

United Airlines bets on these aircraft with an order of 100 units

News about advances in electric cars is a daily occurrence. Talk of electric aircraft, however, is almost science fiction. Until now. A Swedish startup, Heart Aerospace (https://heartaerospace.com/) is poised to put the first all-electric commercial airliners into service as soon as 2026. United Airlines has given the final backing to this project by ordering 100 units of the first model to leave the Swedish company's plants. It is a 19-passenger aircraft designed to cover short routes. In addition to the order for these aircraft, the airline's investment fund, United Airlines Ventures, launched last June, will invest in Heart Aerospace, along with Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a Bill Gates fund, and Arizona regional carrier Mesa Airlines, which has also ordered Heart Aerospace aircraft.
