Flying cabs closer than you think

Lilium expects to produce the first units in mid-2024

In one or two years we could be seeing the first electric-powered flying vehicles over some of our cities. The German startup Lilium(https://lilium.com/), announced that in the middle of that year it would start producing the first units of a seven-seater vertical take-off electric aircraft. Azul, the Brazilian low-cost airline that tried to buy Latam in 2021, signed a strategic alliance and an option to acquire 220 of these aircraft. These aircraft are intended to be used as air cabs in markets such as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Azul's markets) or New York, where there is a significant use of helicopters for executive transportation.

Lilium is joined by Germany's Volocopter, which also expects to launch its first electric vertical takeoff units in 2024. Volocopter is working on three models: the VoloCity, a two-seat urban air cab, the VoloConnect, for travel between cities and their suburbs, and the VoloDrone, for transporting cargo.

Welcome to the future.
