Are there opportunities in the Chilean stock market? Despite market pessimism and uncertainty, there is certainly value in many of the companies listed on the stock exchange. This was the subject of the webinar "Opportunities in the Chilean market: have you thought about investing?", in which Joaquín Prieto, investment manager, explained the philosophy that has led the FYNSA Total Return fund to post a 20% return since January 2020, a period in which the IPSA registered a negative return of 5%.

The central point in managing the portfolio of the Total Return fund, said Prieto, is to maintain an active strategy, selecting stocks of companies that present catalysts for the growth of their businesses and that have a dividend return that allows mitigating a bear market. In this way, the investment return is protected while the growth catalysts develop.

The opportunities are there. Today's low equity valuations, despite higher corporate earnings, make stocks in Chile today look more attractive than interest rate focused investments, as long as a very selective investment strategy is maintained.
