b) Sub-Saharan Africa. It is assumed that access to technology is greater the more developed a country is. But when it comes to mobile device money accounts, or mobile banking, Africa in general, and Sub-Saharan Africa in particular, far lead in adoption. In 2018, according to Our World in Data, globally there were 866 million registered mobile accounts, of which 396 million were in Sub-Saharan Africa and 133 million in West Africa. Latin America and the Caribbean had only 27 million accounts.
