2021 was a positively amazing year in the investment world. The art market was no stranger to this, with major auction houses reporting record sales for the year.
a) Woman in front of a window, Pedro Pablo Picasso
b) Portrait of a young woman holding a medallion, Sandro Boticelli
c) Wooden huts among olive and cypress trees, Vincent Van Gogh
Response:
a) Woman in front of a window. Picasso's work was auctioned at Christie'sen New York in May last year for US$103.4 million. However, the surprise of the year was Everydays: the first 500 days, a high-resolution composite of digital images created by Beeple every day since May 2007. The work, which started the auction at US$100 and ended up selling for US$69.3 million, put NFTs, virtual works of art, at center stage. Everydays: the first 500 days was acquired by Singapore-based NFT production studio and cryptocurrency fund Metapurse.
