Construction resumes

Residential projects account for the bulk of the construction work

Share

The third quarter of 2021 ended with continued growth in the number of new construction projects registered, according to data from the IConstruye platform. In June, 29 projects were registered, compared to 24 and 22 in May and April, respectively. The bulk of the projects (more than three-quarters) consisted of apartments and houses, reflecting the revival of demand for home purchases. However, the number of projects registered remains well below the 2019 average, which was 60 projects per month. In 2021, January saw a peak of 59 projects registered, a phenomenon driven by the backlog of projects from 2020 and the easing of health measures. While resilience is evident in the construction sector, its growth is being impacted by political uncertainty and the sharp rise in prices of some of the most important construction materials.
