In total, nearly 1,650,000 people have already been vaccinated against COVID-19. This figure makes Chile the leader in Latin America in terms of vaccination against the disease.

The pace of the mass vaccination campaign in the country has even surpassed that of developed nations such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

Chile has administered 8.4 doses per 100 residents, according to the latest data from the University of Oxford’s Our World in Data registry.

This figure is significantly higher than the 2.0 doses in Brazil, 1.27 in Argentina, and 0.56 in Mexico. The United States leads the Americas with 14 doses per 100 inhabitants. In fact, we have even surpassed Canada on the continent, with 3 doses per 100 inhabitants, and the European Union, which has 4.4 doses per 100 inhabitants.

The success of Chile's vaccination campaign is due to the substantial number of doses secured—enough to comfortably cover the entire population—as well as the government's administration of the program, an efficient distribution system, and the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine.

The government's plan to vaccinate 25% of the population by the end of the first quarter and 80% by the end of the second quarter would be achievable if the current pace of implementation is maintained.

This comes on top of a report released a week ago by the investment bank JP Morgan, which noted that Chile will be the first emerging market country to achieve herd immunity.

If these trends continue, Chile is projected to be the Latin American country that will benefit most from its mass vaccination plansas the vaccination process for older adults and at-risk populations continues, potentially allowing for an earlier reopening of the economy and, with it, greater chances of seeing a clear uptick in growth in the coming quarters.
