Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make waves. One of the worrying aspects of this disruptive technology is its ability to create false images of faces and documents.of both faces and documents. Faced with this challenge tools are already beginning to appear to help determine whether an image is true or whether it was generated by AI.

One of the companies involved in these solutions is Truepic, a firm that has been in the market since 2015 offering solutions that allow to know if an image was digitally edited or adulterated. Truepic, whose financing has involved investment funds from companies such as Sony, Adobe and Microsoft, had an explosive growth in 2020, when the pandemic multiplied online transactions.

Truepic's focus is to help banks and insurers, among others, to avoid fraud through image verification. It has also collaborated with other institutions, such as Ballotpedia in the United States in 2020, to verify the images of politicians associated with messages on social networks (https://truepic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/FINAL-Truepic-Case-Study-Ballotpedia-.pdf).

In that vein, Google has added two new features to its search engine. One is "about this image," offering contextual information such as whether the image or a similar one has been indexed before by Google, where it first appeared and where else it has been posted online.where it first appeared and where else it has been published online. Secondly, the company will mark as such all images generated with its generative AI tools and is working with other organizations, such as AI company Midjourney and image bank Shutterstock to do the same with their images.
