Which country had the highest growth in blueberry production in that period?

Share

Chile was a pioneer in the cultivation and export of blueberries, amid a global boom in their production and consumption. Global blueberry production rose from 439,000 metric tons in 2010 to nearly one million metric tons in 2019.

ANSWER

Peru. Peruvian blueberry production rose from less than 50 metric tons to 150,000 metric tons between 2010 and 2019, while Chile’s production rose from 76,000 to just over 150,000 during the same period. Thanks to its climate, Peru can harvest blueberries year-round, which has allowed it to take full advantage of the different seasons and become the world’s largest exporter by value in 2019, according to data from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
