The firearms debate has been the order of the day in recent weeks. The Small Arms Survey organization -which in early June gave a course on preventing and responding to the diversion of weapons in conjunction with the Colombian Foreign Ministry and the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs- carried out several studies on the world's arms problem, including a ranking of the countries with the highest number of civilian weapons in the world. In Latin America, which country tops the ranking?

ANSWER

Uruguay. With 34.66 guns per 100 inhabitants, the Rio de la Plata nation leads by far the ranking of Latin American countries (almost doubling the second country in the region with the most guns, Venezuela) and tying with Canada. It is far behind, however, the U.S., where there are more than 120 guns per 100 inhabitants.

Chile is located in the middle of the ranking, with just over 12 weapons per 100 inhabitants.
