Venezuelan migration has been one of the most significant demographic phenomena in Latin American history in recent decades. Around 7 million Venezuelans have left their country. Their destination? 84% have settled in Latin American countries, with Colombia leading by a wide margin, hosting around 2.5 million. Peru ranks second, with 1.5 million residents. Chile ranks fifth, behind the United States and Ecuador.

The reasons for the diaspora lie in the precarious conditions facing the Venezuelan economy, which has one of the highest inflation rates in the world, a minimum wage of US$15 per month, and high levels of violence, in addition to political persecution, according to Latinometrics.
