Nearshoring is a reality

Canada and Mexico overtake China as suppliers of goods to the U.S. market

You have probably heard of nearshoringThe concept came into vogue as a result of the disruption of supply chains during the pandemic and was boosted by the trade war between the United States and China. It is about diversifying the logistics chain by locating its sources closer to the centers of consumption.

In the case of the North American giant -the world's largest consumer market- nearshoring is a reality. After more than a decade during which China was the largest supplier of goods to the United States, in the first half of 2023 Mexico became the main supplier, followed by Canada. U.S. imports from China were down 25% in the first half compared to the same period last year, while imports from Mexico were up 5.4%.
