The world is undergoing a profound process of transformation, affecting many areas of politics, economics and trade. affecting many areas of politics, economics and commerce. As in any time of major change, situations become volatile, so it is more important than ever to be aware of the major forces that are driving this transformation.

To navigate this new reality, we organized a webinar in which Jorge Sahd, director of the Center for International Studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, addressed the main issues that are transforming the world.

The first is the process of rebalancing power that we are experiencing, with globalization losing strength. Trade relations are now with strings attached, both because of the climate crisis and because of national security factors and the push for trade between allies, said Sahd.

The evolution of the war in Ukrainewhich, after the brief rebellion of Wagner Group's mercenary forces at the end of June, has entered a new phase, has entered a new phase that brings many questions as to how the situation will evolve.

The rivalry between the United States and China, with a clear confrontation at the technological and military levels but marked by an important economic interdependence. Important issues to watch are the elections to be held next year in the United States and Taiwan, in a context in which doubts are beginning to emerge as to whether China is close to reaching its peak of expansion.

The evolution of the European Union, which seems to be moving towards a position of strategic autonomy.

And finally, the political risk in Latin America. There is much talk of a "pink tide" in light of the leftist governments installed in the region's major economies, but, says Sahd, what we have seen in recent years is a pendulum swing among voters, who, rather than choosing an ideology, vote to oppose it.The consequence? Political volatility and shorter economic cycles.
