Chile is a country rich in solar energy. As of September of this year, Chile’s photovoltaic generation capacity accounted for 23.5% of the total. And given the current portfolio of projects under construction or in the planning stages, this percentage will only continue to grow. Here are eight facts about solar energy that you probably didn’t know:

2. Every 90 minutes, enough sunlight reaches the Earth's surface enough sunlight to meet our energy needs for a year.
3. The cost of installing solar panels has fallen by 89% over the past decade.
4. Solar panels do not need direct sunlight to generate energy. In fact, they are 15% to 25% more efficient on cloudy days.
5. In the Northern Hemisphere, all solar panels face south, while in the Southern Hemisphere, the opposite is true.
6. Solar panels are the source of electricity generation to install.
7. China is the world leader in solar energy, with more than 340 GW installed—three times as much as in the U.S.
8. Europe, the U.S., and China plan to build solar farms in space.
