The future of electromobility in Chile

For some years now it has been increasingly common to see electric cars on the streets of our country. At the beginning, this industry entered Chile with the arrival of the first hybrid cars, but nowadays it is possible to see from small electric delivery vehicles to completely zero-emission passenger buses.

As announced by the government when launching the National Electromobility Strategy at the end of 2021, only 100% electric vehicles will be marketed in Chile by 2035. Currently, there are more than 800 electric buses operating in the public transportation system, to which will be added another thousand that will start operating within the next 2 years.

In the private sector, electromobility has rapidly gained ground. During 2021, more than 3,000 zero- or low-emission vehicles were sold, of which 556 represent 100% electric vehicles.

This boom in zero-emission transportation is being driven by a mix of factors: increased public concern about greenhouse gas emissions and increasingly evident climate change, coupled with accelerating technological advances in the battery industry and electromobility. Today's electric vehicles have greater autonomy, and it is increasingly common to see charging infrastructure in service stations and shopping malls. This makes it progressively more attractive for the Chilean consumer to acquire a vehicle of this type, and thus, more and more manufacturers have appeared that offer hybrid or 100% electric vehicles among their range of products.
