The world economy is going through a turbulent period, with inflation and risks of recession in sight. In October, ECLAC updated its growth projections for Latin America and the Caribbean.

ANSWER

Guyana. With a projected GDP expansion of 30% by 2023, Guyana is the fastest growing country in the region. This very high rate - which follows an expected 50% GDP expansion by 2022 - is a consequence of the oil boom in the small country, which has meant investments disproportionate to the size of its GDP.

Most of the list of the 10 economies that will grow the most in 2023 in the region is made up of several Caribbean islands, which are favored by the recovery of tourism. Also standing out is Venezuela, whose economy seems to have bottomed out and now, with a semi-official dollarized system and a recovery in oil production and prices, is starting to grow after years of decline.

Chile, as is well known, is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean whose economy will shrink in 2023 according to ECLAC projections.
