The weight of a leader

Can a giant like Twitter go down, and just like that? It just goes to show the weight that some decisions can carry and the value that a C-Level team that has its goals aligned with those of the company brings.

A couple of weeks ago, Elon Musk closed the purchase of Twitter in exchange for US$44 billion. Since this happened, several celebrities have made the decision to leave the social network, even holding the new CEO directly responsible for his interventions.First came the massive layoffs, then the plan to charge those with verified accounts. In fact, personalities such as Gigi Hadid (famous model), Shonda Rimes (creator of Grey's Anatomy) and Toni Braxton (singer) say that Twitter is no longer a "safe space" and that they do not want to participate in "whatever Elon has planned".

But what is Musk's real plan? From the censures received by the entrepreneur, it can be deduced that he is seeking a reduction in the moderation of content on the platformwith the idea of strengthening "freedom of expression". Moreover, various sources indicate that he would be seeking to support the candidacy of Donald Trump for the next presidential election in the United States, which has had a strong impact on the public. At the same time, another action that generated widespread unease in the community was the total dismissal of the company's Human Rights team.

These messages have not been well received by Twitter users, which has generated this wave of account closures, and even the withdrawal of advertising advertisers. About this, Musk points to activist groups that, according to him, "are trying to destroy freedom of expression in the United States". The truth is that this has generated a massive drop in Twitter's advertising revenue and has even sparked the growth of an alternative social network: Mastodon, which today has more than 650 thousand users (with more than 230 thousand new entries in the last week).

Now, even a giant like Twitter can go down - and that fast? This shows the weight that some decisions can have, and the value provided by a C-Level team that has its own objectives aligned with those of the company. This is precisely why the main factor evaluated by Venture Capital investors is the founding team. This is supported, in fact, by Elon Musk himself: technically ruthless, he was able to create two giants, Tesla and SpaceX, but today, it seems, he is not getting into the right place and is showing signs of collapsing an empire.
